This is your portal to Olly Butters, lucky you.
Here you can find everything about me:)

Work

I am a third year Ph.D. student reading theoretical astrophysics at the Open University. If you are interested in what I do academically then try my work page.

If you want to find out my every sordid detail then read my CV (job offers welcome :)).

Second Life

For over a year I have been working in Teen Second Life for the Schome initiative. My duties have included lots of scripting in the custom Second Life scripting language to build various objects on our island, such as a cannon that people can shoot themselves out of.

My biggest contribution has been the development of sensors to monitor what is happening on our islands, these act like a radar and record metrics in a MySql database which can be queried. This has allowed us to quantitatively describe the success of our project. Take a look at the Schome sensors page to get a better idea of what I am describing.

Web development

I took up web design as a hobby about a year ago, starting with my own personal site, since then I have learnt a variety of skills, including HTML, CSS, php, and MySql.

I now maintain my own Linux webserver, which I host various things on.

I run the Post Graduate Student Society website at the Open University, the SchomePark sensor page, the main Schome website, and my own pages.

Personal

For an insight to the real me take a look at my personal page where you can see photos of me and where I have been, as well as other random crap.
